If Not Now, When, Kauai?

By the end of 2010, there were over 4,000 cases of HIV/AIDS in Hawaii, and of those cases, many have passed away, their spot replaced by another infection.  HIV/AIDS no loner gets consistent or dramatic news headlines but is still a very serious issue worldwide and here in Hawaii. Through better medication and treatment of this disease, HIV and AIDS have taken on a different face than the images we once associated with it.  […]

Three Challenges for a Better You and a Better Us

Another year has come and gone, in what seems to be a blur for many, I’m sure.  It’s always interesting for me to listen to people commit to their “New Year Resolutions” and wonder if they will actually stick to them for a week, much less a full year.  Commitment is something that I take very seriously, not only in my professional life, but my personal life, as well.  Personally, I don’t make resolutions […]

AIDS Free Generation May be Hijacked by a “New AIDS Generation”

On December 1, 2013, Mālama Pono Health Services hosted a candle light vigil in honor of these we have lost, those who live with the virus and those who offer kokua in the form of service and donations to all at risk.  The group of 15 or so people gathered in the sand at Kalapaki Beach Park, in front of Duke’s Bar with candles, thoughts and prayers.  Tears were shed, hopes were raised and for some, […]
